Had a wonderful time lying on the soft sand dune looking up at the pitch black night sky. The Orion Belt was fully visible. However, we could only see a few shooting stars instead of the forecasted king of meteor shower known as the Geominids.
However, on our way home about 15km after exiting the gate, we were stuck in a super long car queue for about 45 minutes. As we inched forward and finally at the T junction, there were many police vehicles as well as fire engine and ambulance and two totally burnt cars at the opposite of the road shoulder. That was about 2am 14th December morning.
It finally dawned on me I could have been easily in one of that two burnt up cars. The two opposing direction single lane traffic of the Razeen Road with most segments with max speed of 120kmph and no road dividers have all the ingredients for a catastrophic and tragic end awaiting all the avid star-gazers. The risks exponentially increased by some reckless drivers in vehicles who drove against the traffic on the adjacent lane while the rest of us law-abiding residents who stayed in the jammed traffic queue that wee hours of the morning. The straight road is not totally flat and at some sections were dimly-litted and undulating terrain. The ups and downs were quite fun to drive over but once night fall, one would see a sudden appearance of the bright high beam headlights of the opposing car suddenly and would blind you for an instant. Best drive there before night fall when the daylight is still around to lower the risk of an accident.

A magical desert spot, famous for crystal clear Milky Way sightings and one of the most beautiful places to camp under the night sky. Far from city lights, the stars feel close enough to touch, creating a peaceful and unforgettable experience. Perfect for stargazers, photographers, and anyone who wants to sleep under a true blanket of stars. ✨.

10/10 camping spot and milky way on a clear night sky can be visible.
The photos do better just than bare eyes of course so if you have that one camera, wipe the dust off and get it working !!
Just fuel and get water gallons before you hit the road. For Du users, 20-30 mins before arriving to the spot the data cuts so upload some offline apps.

Al Quaa is praised as one of the darkest spots in the UAE, offering a spectacular Milky Way view with numerous stars, which is best experienced on a no moon day. It involves a three-hour drive from Dubai, with the last hour being a straight drive on a two-way road until you reach the Al Quaa entry gate. It is a family-friendly spot suitable for bonfires and barbecues, but campers must ensure they take warm clothes, as temperatures drop significantly at night. If traveling in a group with multiple cars, it is crucial to pre-mark specific spots on maps, as there are multiple farm entries, increasing the chance of getting lost for a few kilometers. Overall, it is a highly recommended and great experience.

An unforgettable overnight experience at Al Quaa Desert!
Spending a night in the Al Quaa Desert was truly magical. The vast open landscape, complete silence, and crystal-clear night sky made it one of the most peaceful experiences I’ve had in the UAE. The stargazing alone was worth the trip — zero light pollution and millions of stars stretching across the sky.
The overnight stay was well worth it. Temperatures were pleasant, the desert breeze was calming, and waking up to sunrise over the dunes was breathtaking. It’s the perfect escape from city life if you’re looking to disconnect, reflect, and experience the raw beauty of the UAE’s desert.
A 1.5 hrs drive from Abu Dhabi. Highly recommended for nature lovers, photographers, campers, and anyone seeking a unique and serene adventure.

A very nice place to spend the night for camping and walking in a version desert deep yet be careful of getting lost yet the etisalat tower will help you paving your way back. Very peaceful moment spent with the nature, moon and stars and away from the noise of the civilization. I walked alone in the desert and sat alone in a dune under the shimmering stars that take you out of all the burdens and stress of the current life and work challenges. I really recommend if you really need that inner part of you to breathe and your spirit reaches the ✨ stars.

Near the entrance and main camping zones, it feels lively and active — well-developed, organized, and surprisingly clean despite the crowd. You’ll see many families and groups enjoying barbecues, tents, music, and campfires.
As you drive deeper into the sand dunes, (4x4 mandatory) , everything changes. The crowd thins out, the surroundings become quieter, and soon you’ll find wide open space all to yourself. It’s perfect if you prefer a more peaceful camping experience while still enjoying all the fun outdoor activities.
The highlight is definitely the night sky. Since there are no street lights or artificial lights at all, the area becomes pitch dark — which is exactly what makes the stars look unreal. You can easily spot constellations, and on clear nights, you will see the stars glowing across the sky. It’s truly magical.
One important thing to be prepared for — during winter it can get very windy and extremely cold, especially late at night. Warm clothes and blankets are a must. Also, there are no shops or markets anywhere nearby. Once you pass the last petrol pump, that’s your final chance to buy water, food, charcoal, and other essentials, so plan well in advance.
Overall, it’s an amazing escape from city life — peaceful, adventurous, and beautiful all at once. Perfect for anyone who loves desert camping, star gazing, and quality time with family or friends.

A must visit. Beautiful sunset. Beautiful moonset and amazing galaxy with the milky way, the shooting stars and something I saw for the first time... moving stars. But must go during new moon or Cresent moon or on a date where the moon sets by 11:30PM..
It's takes about 2 hours and 30 mins to get there. Make sure to reach before sunset to set up your tent.

If you're looking for a place to truly disconnect and experience the night sky, Al Quaa is something special. I would recommend reaching before sunset so you can enjoy the changing colors of the desert, set up your spot, and have a BBQ before darkness takes over.
The nights can get surprisingly cold, so bring warm clothes even if the day feels comfortable. A normal sedan can make it there without much trouble, but drive carefully and stay aware of the road conditions. During my visit, I saw someone who had unfortunately gotten stuck, so a little caution goes a long way.
One important thing to know: there are no shops, restaurants, fuel stations, or washrooms nearby. You're really in the middle of nowhere, with the nearest facilities quite far away, so bring everything you need including water, food, chairs, and any camping gear. What makes Al Quaa unforgettable isn't the location itself—it's the feeling. Standing under a sky filled with stars, away from city lights and noise, is something that's hard to describe in words. If possible, spend the night there and stay until sunrise. Watching the first light of the day appear over the desert after a night under the stars is an experience you'll remember for a very long time.
